Chapter 12 - After party

Cesca was enjoying the fact they were both out having fun, catching up with friends, it was something she missed, it hadn’t exactly been her main priority since having gorgeous little Mia, who had completely and entirely changed their world around. There was a quiet knock at the door, Adana was always one to be aware of when Mia was asleep, Cesca happily came to the door she couldn’t wait to see Adana, “Adana”, and they exchanged some friendly kisses as they both walked in ready to watch the second half of corrie. “ so how is everything going with you and Tom now?”, “it’s great Ces, I really think I have finally found the one, I know it sounds cheesy but it’s the truth”, “it’s okay I know how you feel,  you not remembering I’m the one who risked her life for the man I love”, “true, it helps having you around Ces, someone who understands what I am going through, I can’t exactly go round asking Karen, her love story wasn’t exactly one that tugged on the heart strings”, Cesca couldn’t help but laugh Adana followed, she knew it was mean but it was the truth, Karen waltzed around the place as if she was better or as if she understood what you were going through, which she didn’t especially in Jonah and Cescas case. The girls were starting feel hungry so Cesca suggested they ordered in, “what do you fancy then?” she asked Adana, who by her face was clearly thinking about food, “I’m thinking Chinese” she replied with a smile on her face, Cesca passed Adana that phone and her card, whilst she went and checked on what she hoped was a sleeping Mia. Luckily for her it was a sleeping Mia, she noticed she was looking a little rosy so decided to fold her blanket back a bit and open the smaller window, “there you go Mia”, she said sweetly before walking back downstairs to an Adana who was still on the phone, “what have you ordered”, “the works”, was Adana’s reply, Cesca simply smiled, “the works sound good”, they continued to catch up whilst they awaited their delivery.

Jonah was now at the party enjoying himself as ever, he told Ronan and Vicki to keep an eye on him he didn’t want to get drunk or be out later than midnight, he partied and danced the whole night through which was backed up with a vast amount of drinking.  Despite promising Cesca he found it almost impossible to inflict even the slightest bit of self control, Jonah was a mature 18 year old, why was he taking the advantage of a party to prove to everyone that’s exactly what he wasn’t. Whilst at the party Jess took the liberty of trying it on, though Jonah did finally find his inner self, “Jess what you doing”, as he pushed her back before she could get any closer, “Jonah you have been eyeing me up this whole night”, Vicki quickly stepped in she had kept her word and had been watching Jonah the whole night whilst Ronan hit the decks. “Jess, don’t even try the guilt trick, Jonah’s happy, why won’t you except he doesn’t want you?” Jess brushed off the comment and slowly got back to dancing, she felt quite embarrassed, “thanks Vic, I love Cesca and there is no way I am going to jeopardise that”. The party carried on and so did Jonah’s drinking. Back at home Adana and Cesca had lapped up the takeaway that Adana so jokingly nicknamed the works the soaps had finished and Mia had woken up so they all sat down comfily watching a film. Mia seemed to be enjoying it until she fell asleep again. It was starting to reach eleven o’clock she knew Jonah would be home soon so she let Adana get off home, after all they had work in the morning, “night Ces, night Mia, sleep well text me once he’s home yeah”, “yeah”, Cesca whispered trying not to reawaken little Mia who seemed to be in quite a deep sleep. Cesca slowly walked up the stairs putting Mia back in her cot; the room was lovely and cool and was sure that Mia would sleep well. She began to get ready for bed, pyjamas on and teeth brushed. It was almost midnight and Cesca was expecting Jonah to be back by now, she didn’t worry though, she guessed his idea of late, was a lot different to hers. She decided to catch up with some marking, now was as perfect time as any. A few hours had passed and Cesca had finished all her marking which was rare, she looked at her bedside clock which now read a time of 2.30 am, Jonah and Cesca might have different ideas as to what late was but this was just ridiculous, she instantly reached for her mobile trying to get through to him, he didn’t answer. “For god sake Jonah, so much for a promise”, She put her phone down as she heard Mia crying, she went to go and see to her. “Aw popit, what’s the matter?”, She picked her up slowly rocking her, she was very hot, Cesca didn’t panic she simply turned to one of her maternity books, it stated that if a baby between 3 and 6 months is over 90 Fahrenheit, your baby is feverish and simply requires a dose of calpol. Cesca carried a grizzly Mia towards the bathroom where she kept the medicines, she measured the amount out, being very careful not to dish out to much, and she carefully fed it to Mia, who happily took it. She was still grizzly so Cesca opened up a packet of dummies she bought, she hadn’t liked the idea of using them before but now they were starting to sound like a life saver, she carefully then placed one into Mia's mouth, it was specially designed to wean a baby back to sleep, it seemed to be doing the trick Cesca rocked her gently, she took her time making sure that Mia was slowly cooling down, which she was. She wanted to knock this fever on the head before it got any worse after all, she was waiting for Jonah to get home and she was pretty sure that wasn’t going to be for a while. Cesca was tired but wasn’t in the mood for sleeping, she carefully carried a tiny Mia back to bed and headed downstairs to watch some trashy TV, she watched the first 5 minutes before grabbing the house phone and persistently ringing until he answered, which of course he didn’t, Cesca was now more than annoyed and on top of it all she was now tired. She slowly found herself falling asleep on the couch.

There was a loud bang and the sound of crying, Cesca woke up slightly startled, she grabbed the phone to see what time it was, 4.30 am, Cesca was fuming she knew exactly who had banged his way in, Jonah! Cesca got up immediately storming through to hallway where she leant on the wall, just staring at Jonah with a very unimpressed look on her face. “Evening beautiful”, “More like morning”, Cesca replied even more agitated than a minute ago. “Jonah it’s 4.30am, so much for a promise plus look at you, you can barely stand up!”, “Ces, I’m...sor”, He could barely get a word out without it sounding slurred and unrecognisable. “Jonah save it!” she walked upstairs in a huff to go and reassure baby Mia who had also been rudely woken by the loud bang of the door “Sorry Mia, shhh, come on now shh, back to sleep”. Mia went back to sleep very quickly after her hug with mummy, Cesca was rather pleased with herself, now all she had to do was deal with the other child that was in the house, she walked down the stairs, Jonah was now sitting in  an awkward position he had obviously fallen over whilst Cesca had been upstairs. “Get up Jonah”, she wasn’t going to bear to even empathise with him, she was tired and annoyed and to top it all off, Jonah had just thrown up all over the floor, the last 5 minutes were beginning to pan out similarly to the last time Jonah went out, except that time he almost blurted their biggest secret, this time Cesca was more worried about him distressing Mia. She signed for Jonah to walk through to the kitchen she sat him down and got a bottle of water out of the fridge, “drink, all of it!”, Jonah was being slow, Cesca wanted to go back to sleep, she already new getting up in 3 hours was going to be tough. “Jonah!” he did as he was told, dribbling like a baby as he did so, even Mia didn’t dribble like this. She got up off the chair and went and got some kitchen towel, she may have been annoyed, but still found it in her heart to leave him with some dignity so she wiped his cheek and helped him get ready for bed. Cesca could finally rest up, she was exhausted and angry a mixture Jonah didn’t want to experience once he was sober, maybe he should have kept his promise.

Morning soon came, the alarm rang, Cesca was first up she turned it off, ignoring Jonah who was completely out of it. She got dressed and ready, she was wearing a dress today, and this put her in a much better mood despite still being so angry at Jonah. She went to check on Mia who sounded a bit bunged up; she woke her up and winded her that seemed to clear her chest. She fed and changed her before dressing her in a really cute pair of aqua jeans and a frilly t-shirt, “here we go Mia one last thing, time to try out your converses now me thinks, Auntie Ruth would be proud” She looked gorgeous as always, she was getting bigger every day and today was no different, she was now 4 months old, she had started to eat yogurt and loved every bit of it. Cesca picked up Mia taking her down stairs, once again placing her in her bouncer, which she was slowly showing signs of growing out of, which was surprising, Cesca got her bag ready before going and waking up Jonah, she had absolutely no sympathy for him, after all he had broken every promise he had made her the night before. “Get up Jonah”, Jonah woke, covering his eyes as Cesca gladly opened the curtains and allowed the light to stream in, she was ready to teach him a lesson. “Jonah don’t think I’m giving you any sympathy, you’re not the first person to wake up with a hangover, plus you said you wouldn’t be late and you threw up everywhere the minute you walked through the door. Which reminds me I’ve got a little surprise for you waiting in the door way”, Jonah knew what it was, he just about managed to get out of his bed before feeling dizzy, he plodded down stairs once dressed and was ordered to clear up his own sick, after all Cesca was never going near anyone’s sick, it was bad enough cleaning Mia up. Jonah was finally ready, “take it I’m driving”; she said passing him his sunglasses” think you might need these”. Cesca went to pick up Mia putting her in the car, Jonah followed attempting to lock up but failing, after strapping Mia in, she went back to lock up ordering Jonah to just get in the car, she’d had enough. They drove to school in silence, Jonah knew she was annoyed and made an attempt to apologise but Cesca wasn’t having it after all she was the one up till 4 waiting for him, in-between checking how Mia was doing with her fever. They got to school. “You better start studying, I’ll take her to the crèche”, “okay,” Jonah replied he leant over to give Cesca a kiss, which she accepted, giving out a little smile which she couldn’t help. However she made it very clear that she was still annoyed, which Jonah could understand but he couldn’t understand why she had to keep it going on after all she had said it herself, he wasn’t the first person to wake up with a hangover, he had clearly misinterpreted Cescas anger which was more down to his broken promises and an under the weather Mia. She headed off to the crèche without the buggy today, she was in a rush, and she wanted to catch Ronan and Vicki before first lesson. She dropped content but bunged up Mia at the crèche with Flopsy, who went absolutely everywhere with them, before kissing her goodbye and heading off to finish her unfinished business. It didn’t take long to find them both all over each other in the corridor; they clearly weren’t suffering as much as Jonah was. “Sorry to interrupt”, Cesca started off by separating them from one another’s lips, a school policy that a rare amount of sixth formers kept to. “How much did Jonah have to drink last night and I want the truth”,”urr 5 Alco pops, 4 pints and 7 glasses of wine”, Ronan quickly told her, “You being serious, your his best friends you were supposed to be looking after him, guess you were too busy watching eachother”,”Sorry, he was having a good time, in fact Jess even made a pass at him”, this only added to Cescas anger “what”, “it’s true, but he set her straight, he loves you miss, we did tell him to go home and even  got him as far as the door, but he wasn’t leaving without a fight”, “sorry Vicki, Ronan it’s been a long night, he didn’t get in till 4, I’m shattered and Mia’s been ill, he promised me he wouldn’t do this, I’m so angry with him, thanks you two keep an eye on him for me today, I’ll see you in class later”. They both smiled happy to help, Cesca was so fed up, and Jonah couldn’t be trusted to keep the tiniest of promises.

It was now last lesson and Cesca caught Jonah in the corridor, “ what you doing skiving?”, “Ces, I feel awful, my heads spinning I constantly want to hurl”, “just cause I’m your wife and I’m teaching you this lesson doesn’t mean that I’m going to give you the special treatment Jonah, you got yourself into this mess and you’re going to cope with it, hopefully it might actually knock some sense into you”, Jonah frowned he knew she was right, but he did genuinely feel awful, he followed the others in and tried his best to get on with his class work before he felt the contents or more lack of it creep up his  throat, he ran out the classroom before Cesca could say a thing, she sighed and rubbed her face with her hand, he was a mess. She quickly settled the rest of the class which were calm and content, especially with the permanent absence of Fin who had now been forced to take up extra one to one science sessions with Chris. Meanwhile Jonah returned down the corridor after visiting the toilet for the 4th time that day, everyone avoided them at all costs and now he knew why. On his way back, he bumped into Adana, “Adana, could you baby sit Mia tonight, I have some serious making up to do with Ces,”, “I’ve heard, what were you thinking Jonah she trusted you, you have a baby to look after you can’t keep walking in drunk”, “I know, I feel awful not just physically but mentally to, Cesca has made it very clear that I need to learn my lesson which I am slowly doing”, Adana laughed, saw you with the sunglasses this morning, anyway me and Tom will be happy to babysit Mia, shall we pick her up from the Crèche after school?”. “Yeah, that would be great”, Jonah smiled he was finally realising he might actually have the chance to patch everything up with Cesca. He returned to class feeling a lot better now that he was going to make it up to her. He sat down giving her one of his cheeky smiles; she knew he was up to something so simply smiled back. The end of the day came and Jonah was the last person to leave, “Ces, I am so sorry, I never meant to break your promise it just happened”, “Jonah, I spoke to Ronan and Vicki this morning they said you had fun, which is something I suppose, maybe next time you could learn to do it without the presence of alcohol”. “Oh I will Ces”, he leant in for a hug which lead to a kiss, surprisingly Jonah didn’t smell or taste of the night before. “Ces, I have asked Adana to babysit I was hoping we could work things about between us, she said she would pick her up from crèche and everything”, Cesca smiled, this was the thoughtful and mature Jonah that Cesca knew, “Sounds good”, she picked up he folders and they both walked back to the staffroom to grab Cescas coat. Cesca made sure to thank Tom and Adana before she left, they got in the car and drove home, they were now on good terms and were already enjoying the idea of a night off, they got in and enjoyed snuggling up on the sofa together, something they hadn’t been able to properly do with Mia around. Kisses soon turned into something more as yummy mummy suggested a little more, she had clearly forgiven him. The pair needed the time alone, plus Cesca secretly knew that Adana was loving having Mia, she was starting to warm to the idea of having baby’s around. This was the sort of making up Cesca liked, it meant there were no presents therefore no guilt, she loved Jonah and he loved her to and that is the reason the two had got through their little hill and moved on. They loved each other and that’s the way it was going to stay. They were their own little family and last night’s events were simply the practice laps for what was to come in the future, after all they were three people living in the same house, despite all loving each other very much they were bound to get on top of each other every now and then. The light went out and Jonah and Cesca enjoyed a late night of silence no crying and no being woken up at all hours of the morning, just simply the comfort of each other. The silence was definitely something the pair were now valuing despite missing Mia they knew she was in safe hands.
