Chapter 17 - Double The Celebration
It was the 28th July, the sun was shining and the birds were singing, it was a gorgeous day, which was perfect for the Kirby’s as it was Mia’s first birthday. Cesca and Jonah had so much planned for today, they wanted it to be the best day of their daughter’s life, and after all you only celebrate your first birthday once. They had decorated the house with balloons and streamers and even a little glitter, it looked beautiful and definitely not tacky. They had invited a few guests including; Marcus, Ruth, Tom, Adanna, Ronan and Vicki, they wanted all their close friends and family, well the ones who were in this country to celebrate this special day for Mia with them. Cesca and Jonah woke up at 10.am, surprisingly not being woken by Mia, it was the school holidays so there was no need for the alarm clock, they were in enjoying the lie ins though they hadn’t had that many with Mia around, the pair simply lay in each other’s arms, embracing each other’s company. “I could lay like this forever”, Jonah said, hoping that they just might not have to get up at all, “You wish, it’s Mia's birthday and your getting up to help me sort out the food and cake and get Mia ready”, They both climbed out of bed and headed for the birthday girls room before getting dressed and finishing the final preparations. “Morning birthday girl”, Cesca said as she picked up her content 1 year old. She was fully awake and couldn’t help but beam away at the sight of mummy and daddy, “Happy birthday”, they both said simultaneously before Cesca passed a rather smelly Mia over to Jonah “Like I said, you’re getting Mia ready”, She winked then headed for her shower before going and sorting out food. Jonah loved how Cesca had just dumped Mia on him, she didn’t half smell “Right, think that you need a change”, He sorted her out before putting her in a royal blue and white polka dot dress complete with a royal blue ribbon round the middle, she was gorgeous! Cesca had asked him to put a bow in her hair but for some reason he couldn’t quite do that bit and Mia wasn’t liking it either as she screamed with her dummy in her mouth, he carried her down to Cesca handing Mia who was still crying and the cute blue ribbon clip over to her. “Can’t do this bit”, Cesca laughed, she placed Mia on the sofa making sure she wasn’t likely to move and carefully clipped back the side of her hair with the clip, she looked adorable and it looked a lot less painful than when Jonah had tried, Mia rubbed her eyes as she sucked on her dummy, she did look cute, but Cesca hated her having her dummy for too long and it was only ever to be used in an emergency but Jonah seemed to have other ideas which had got Mia slowly attached to this item, “Right missy , I think I’ll be having that”, she took the dummy out of her mouth which was soon followed by some crying. Jonah who was definitely the pushover of the pair, he picked her up not letting her cry, Cesca disagreed with this, she was never going to learn she couldn’t have things if he mollycoddled her every time she cried because she couldn’t have something, “Jonah, just leave her she’ll soon learn”, Jonah apprehensively placed her into her walker, where she refused to walk but simply just screamed. Jonah felt bad but Cesca knew what she was talking about and he headed to the kitchen to pick up the plates that Cesca had given him to place on the table, Mia was slowly starting to calm down as she began to toddle around in her walker that was shaped like a car, it was pretty awesome really. It was all going really well until CRASH! Mia had walked backwards into the table and it started her off crying again, Jonah went through to see what had happened, he picked her up kissing her on the cheek, “are you a silly Billy”, she began to giggle, she was so big now, they loved being able to properly play with her and watch her grow. They were both very proud parents. The clock was approaching 12 o’clock, only ten minutes to people would be arriving and then “BLURGH”, Mia had thrown up all over her gorgeous blue dress, Cesca went over picking her up to see if she could rescue the dress, but there was no way Mia was going to be wearing that, “Well done Mia” She said sarcastically, then headed upstairs to find her a new outfit, leaving Jonah with some free time on his hands so he took the liberty of turning the music channel on, he figured it would lighten the mood as people walked in.
Cesca appeared down the stairs with a fresh clean, free of sick Mia, she was now dressed in an aqua blue boat print dress, which still matched her bow, and she looked as cute as ever. “That’s better”, Cesca said as she reached the bottom of the stairs just as she did the door rang so she was quick to answer it, it was Vicki and Ronan, they came baring gifts, “Aw guys, that’s so sweet of you”, Cesca said as Jonah appeared out of the lounge, “It was no trouble after all your only 1 once, thanks your inviting us”, Vicki said as she came in, Cesca was beginning to like Vicki a lot, since they had all left school they had been round a lot more which was great as Mia really liked them and it meant that Jonah was spending more time with his friends, they were all going to the same University so this time just allowed them to grow closer together. “Come on in”, Jonah said, welcoming in his friends with hugs, “Aw this looks gorgeous”, Vicki said as she came in, “Yeah this is tight” ,Ronan said, which just made them all laugh “Since when did you say tight”, Jonah said, “Since” was all Ronan replied with. “Want anything to drink?” Cesca asked whilst passing Mia over to Jonah, “I’m alright at the minute”, Vicki replied politely, whilst surprise surprise ronan asked for a beer. Cesca went and got the drinks whilst Jonah gave Mia to Vicki, “hello Mia, you look pretty”, “ya”, Mia replied, it was so cute, it almost sounded like she had said yeah. “That’s right Mia”, Jonah added as he was passed his drink by Cesca “Here you go”, before Cesca could finally sit down the door went again but for the last time, this time it was Tom and Adanna, “Hello, where’s the birthday girl?”,”through here”, Cesca greeted them both, they were in an exceptionally good mood but Cesca just took it that they were excited about today. “Aw she is looking as lovely as ever, she is looking more and more like you both each day”, “and your becoming more and more maternal by the day”, Cesca added , it always surprised her to see her friend being so motherly, after all she was the one who had married 3 times but never settled she was almost anti-man but that all changed when she met Tom and she guessed that her attitude to mothering had come with it, Mia stretched her arms out as she saw Cesca, who lovingly picked her up, sitting her on her lap as she sat down on the sofa. “were so glad you could come” but just as she said that the door went again, Cesca had forgotten about Marcus and Ruth the most important people but just as she was getting up Jonah said “I’ll get it’s my dad and Ruth”, She smiled, she couldn’t stand to keep getting up, she had Mia settled on her lap playing with Flopsy as per usual. “Hey Marcus, Ruth, how’re you both?” “Were good thanks, can’t believe its little Mia’s birthday”, Marcus came over and kissed his granddaughter and daughter in law on the cheek before saying hello to everyone else. The party was going really well when Marcus suggested that Mia began to open her gifts, “that sounds good, hey Mia?” Cesca said whilst picking Mia up and placing her on the floor, sitting behind her so that she could help her to unwrap her presents. Jonah had his camera out taking photos, trying to capture all those special moments. Marcus and Ruth were the first to give their gift, “Ruth chose it”, Marcus said proudly , Ruth slightly blushing, “then I’m sure it will be lovely”, Cesca smiled in Ruth’s direction, and she was right, the gift was lovely it was one of those push along trikes, “You can strap her in so its suitable for her”, “Aw dad it’s great, I’m sure she’ll love it”, they just needed to look at Mia’s face to know how grateful she was, Cesca couldn’t resist the opportunity for a tickle, which ended with Mia in laughing fits, it was adorable. Adanna and Tom were next to give their gift ,it was soft and squidgy, Cesca began to tear the paper away and tried to encourage Mia to pull it off but little Mia was happy just sitting looking at it “She’s easy to please”, Tom joked. The present was finally opened with a lot of help from Cesca, “Mia, look what you’ve got”, The present was a my first doll, it was soft and her legs weren’t filled with fluff so were perfect for being grabbed and hung on to and in Mia’s case sucked. “guys, that’s lovely”, Mia latched on to the dolly, “Gosh, she looks like she is loving it more than Flopsy, that’s saying a lot”, Jonah added, Tom and Adanna were touched as the loved up couple cradled each other in one another’s arms, Cesca knew something was going on between them that was making them like this but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it, so quite simply snuck them a cheeky smile, which Adanna saw and blushed. Cesca was finally handed Mia’s last present from their friends, Mia still had one more from mummy and daddy, Mia managed to rip the paper this time though it ended up in her mouth, everyone laughed whilst Cesca grabbed her hand stopping it from being eaten, “We don’t eat paper Mia, though looks like you might”, Just as she said the last bit of her sentence Mia gave eating paper another shot, thankfully Jonah was on hand to rescue this piece, he gave her a kiss before joining them on the floor, “I wonder what this is Mia” Cesca was really excited it was a shame that Mia didn’t quite understand what was going on, though she seemed to like getting all the different presents. This present was smaller and had clearly had a lot more thought involved, Cesca opened it, picking it up to have a closer look at the CD, it simply had written, Happy birthday Mia, here is a CD with all your favourite songs on it, Cesca began to well up, it was lovely idea, she passed the CD to Jonah before having a little hug. “it’s lovely”, “We know she doesn’t have many favourite songs, though we know she is a little mover, it includes Bruno mars, we know how much Mia liked him being played in the car”, Cesca laughed “She sure did, she wailed her little heart out”, Jonah gave Cesca a kiss before suggesting now was a good time to get the cake, everyone was liking the idea of Cake, Cesca picked Mia up and trusted Jonah to go and get the cake, it was homemade and complete with Chocolate buttons and chocolate butter icing , it was a very chocolatey cake, but no one was complaining, they were all likely the look of it until the cake slipped, it flew through the air as it left his hands before landing splat on the floor. Jonah felt really bad but Cesca just laughed, which reassured him that he hadn’t completely ruined his daughters first birthday, “Take Mia lets see if we can rescue this” , the guest all liked the sound of that, Cesca went and picked up the cake, which seemed to leave behind all the parts that hit the floor she cleaned up the mess before heading to the kitchen where she mashed up the cake adding cream, more chocolate and a dollop of ice cream, she returned with bowls for people to serve themselves, “Now that is saving a cake” Adanna added they all tucked in even Mia, but Cesca was sure to put a bib on her, Chocolate and Mia didn’t mix without a mess. “This is lovely “Marcus said, which was a real compliment, coming from him. The guest finished to the sounds of a winging birthday girl she had finished hers to, but wasn’t quite polite enough to just sit quietly and wait, the guests turned around to see a rather chocolatey face, it was cute. Jonah took a picture before letting Cesca take the bowl away and wipe her face. She let her out being careful not to bounce her about, the last thing she needed was Mia being sick again, especially after chocolate cake. They finished the evening with a BBQ! Just the adults as Mia had found the day quite overwhelming and had fallen asleep in Cescas arms, “I think she has had a lovely birthday”, Tom said just as Jonah came in completing the table of food with the last of the chorizo sausages. “Bon appetite”, they all headed for the table, Mia carefully being placed on the sofa with her knew dolly that Adanna had lovingly named Tilly. They lapped up the food like a pack of wolves, they could all see where Mia got her appetite from when Jonah was the first to finish, they completed the evening by listening to Vicki and Ronan’s CD and a few more glasses of wine. The atmosphere was relaxed and slightly romantic, all the couples were sat together each as loved up as the others, Mia was still sleeping which was allowing Cesca and Jonah to enjoy the evening to. They were rather pleased with themselves and couldn’t help but snuggle up next to each other, watching Mia sleep. The room was quiet but not awkward as Tom and Adanna announced they had something important to say, Cesca wasn’t entirely sure what they were about to say but she knew this would be the reason they had both been so chirpy this evening. “Were engaged”! A very excited Adanna announced to an overjoyed but very shocked room of people. “I think more shampoo is required” Jonah said with the biggest smile on his face, he was so happy for Tom and Adanna, this was the start of their future together and him and Cesca were delighted to be a part of it.
