Chapter 48 - Preparing the wedding bells

Cesca had fallen asleep early the night before she’d had a long sleep, a chance to properly recover from the previous day’s traumas. It had been hard and so very stressful, landing Cesca on a hospital bed. Jonah had given her strict instructions not to lift a finger, he had suddenly become very over protective blaming himself for everything that happened the day before, despite none of it being his fault. It was Friday, so the last day of the week anyway, Cesca had been told, not questioned, by Jonah to stay home and rest, Cesca hated the idea of this, being cooped up all day like a chicken, forced to move around and feel sorry for herself. “J, please. I’m fine; I just needed a good sleep”. “That’s great, but you’re doing too much, try and relax a little, for me”, Cesca gave in and smiled, she would do anything for her Jonah to be happy. Jonah was all ready for school; Mia had her shoes on like a good girl despite being grizzly and moany because she didn’t get her choice of breakfast once again. “I’m not going”. “Mia, stop it!”, Jonah was being firm with her for once, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t reach down and give her the biggest hug ever, he couldn’t help but feel guilty for putting the tiny frown on her face. “Mia, daddy is trying to talk to mummy, stop with the winging”, Mia looked down at the floor, slightly embarrassed about being told off. “You relax here at home; I will be back soon, by about 2. I don’t have a lesson last period so shall be back as soon as I can, then depending on how you are feeling we could go and pick Mia up together?”, “Yeah that sounds lovely, but I tell you one thing Kirby, I am not staying in bed all day, I’m pregnant J no disabled”, Jonah laughed at her stubbornness which was once again shining through. “Okay, we better go, I love you”, he leant over planting a delicate kiss on her lips. “I love you to”. Cesca gave Mia a big hug as she launched herself up to Cesca, “Have a  good day sweetie and be good”, Mia didn’t seem to happy at the idea of nursery today and they all knew why. Mia hadn’t been her normal self since yesterday morning, before breakfast, before nursery, before daisy was put into care. Mia was finding it all a bit much; she didn’t much fancy facing nursery without her best friend, her Daisy. Cesca caught on so decided to have a word, she placed her arm around Mia, pulling her closer, giving her a hug as she spoke words of courage and love, “Baby, it’s going to be hard without Daisy  I know, but you have to try and have fun  and get on with it, she’ll be back soon”, Mia looked up at her mummy before giving her a big hug before going out the room with Jonah, Cesca sat up in bed watching them both leave via her bedroom door. Cesca tapped her fingers on her legs, well the tops of her thighs, which was about as far as she could reach with her massive bump. Cesca looked down admiring her stomach, looking through it as if she had x-ray vision, her eyes mirroring her mind, which was processing her babies, what they would look like, what sort of personalities they would have. Cesca was rather enjoying the moments she had to herself, the moments she was able to focus on what was to come, imagine her family’s future, the future involving the 5 of them not just 3, the future that included their twins in it to. Cesca couldn’t help but smile to herself, the whole thing just made her happy. Cesca couldn’t sit in bed for much longer, her back was killing her from falling asleep with her bump, and she needed to move, walk about, and stretch her legs. She whipped back the duvet and placed her feet one after the other on to the cool hard floor, before pushing herself up and heading for a shower. She hopped out ruffling her hair with her hand before pulling out a lovely blue floaty dress from her wardrobe, it was looking lovely outside and Cesca certainly wasn’t going to ignore that fact, Jonah may have wanted her to relax but she wasn’t going to sit around and stare at the same four walls all day, she popped on her dress, it draped beautiful over her elegant bump, hitting her just under the knee, she adjusted her straps on to her shoulders and checked herself out in the mirror before settling with what she was wearing. She sat down by her dressing table dried her hair before enhancing her curls and tying back into a side ponytail, completing with a cute flower. She plodded downstairs and headed to the kitchen to grab a coffee, it was now 11 and she knew exactly what lesson Jonah would be teaching.

Jonah had dropped Mia off at nursery after a lot of difficulty, she cried and screamed and Jonah felt so bad leaving her, he didn’t want to leave her on her own in that state, so upset, so distressed. He was on to his third lesson of the day with year 11, so he was able to just let them get on with some coursework, which didn’t exactly distract his mind which was already elsewhere, he simply sat at his desk, tapping his pen as Mia’s cries and tears ran through his head echoing and pounding with every repeated cry. He tried to persuade himself that she would be fine, she was at nursery and there were many other children to play with, which was true so it wasn’t that he was lying to himself, but he knew that Mia wouldn’t be able to relax unless Daisy was there, she was only 3, this shouldn’t have been something she had to experience, it had completely shaken her up and Jonah didn’t know how to please everyone, his mind was already clogged up with worry about Cesca, was she taking it easy, was she okay, were the babies okay. Jonah reached down into his bag and grabbed his phone, his thumbs tapping away to Cesca, he needed to know that she was okay, he was sure she would be fine but his mind would only begin to calm down if he heard from her, her own words. Ces, I love you. I hope your taking it easy, for your sake, love you so much! See you later, thinking of Chinese for dinner. He placed his phone down next to the coursework he was marking, drifting his eyes between the two looking out for a flash; his heart beating out of sync.

Cesca was now sat in front of the telly, but there was only so much telly you can take for one day, she felt slightly claustrophobic with it being so lovely outside, it hadn’t been this lovely in a while, the words on the news of it being the hottest day of the year echoed through Cesca’s head, it was as if everyone was rubbing in the fact that she was almost imprisoned in her own home, teasing her without directly talking to her. Cesca sighed with boredom just as her phone pinged, she reached over to the arm of the chair, where she had placed her phone and picked it up. It was Jonah, of course it was Jonah, she didn’t half expect a gazillion messages from him, he was too much of a worrier which wasn’t helped with Cesca being so stubborn, how was he supposed to know how she was when she never allowed herself to ask for help, though he would always know when something wasn’t right and in fairness he was dramatising the whole situation. Cesca replied to the text, stop worrying, I’m fine, the babies are fine. I need to get out, it’s too nice outside, I love you lots and I promise I won’t do anything stupid, please stop worrying, have a good day and I’ll see you at 2. Cesca pressed send with confidence, she could almost imagine his reply, she felt like ignoring it to start with but knew that might just lead to Jonah getting more worried and coming home, she needed to reassure him that she really was fine. Cesca smiled as she placed her phone back down only to hear it ping once more, she expected it to be Jonah, but it wasn’t. It was Adanna her best friend, she couldn’t understand how she would have time to text; she was at school, meant to be working. Hey Ces, heard your off, Jonah’s orders. I’m off to but booked the time off, wondered if you fancied heading into town, you up for wedding preparations? Cesca was pleased to receive this text, anything to get her out of the house, she couldn’t bare to be sat on the sofa any longer, she turned the TV off, getting herself up before heading into the hallway, tapping her fingers on her phone as she replied with, YES, anything to get me out of the house, this is worse than sitting in a hospital bed, at least Jonah was there then to keep me company. She wiggled her feet into her strappy sandals, grabbing her bag and keys before heading out the door without a moment’s hesitation, she was just so happy to be able to enjoy the weather. She unlocked her car getting in and speeding off to town to meet Adanna. Cesca’s phone rang, she answered it using her hands free, and it was Jonah, checking up on her crazy ideas of getting out of the house. “Hey Ces, how’re you feeling?”, “Fine, like I said. You really need to stop worrying, you’re going to make yourself ill”, Jonah obviously completely ignored her last comment as he jumped in with his response “Are you in the car?”, Cesca sighed, “Yes I am, I’m going to meet Adanna, I can’t take staring at the same 4 walls all day”, “Ces, you came out of hospital yesterday”, “Yes, but I feel fine, the doctors discharged me, suggested I slept which I did and now I just need to have some fresh air”, “Okay baby, I love you. Just don’t overdo it”, “Love you to, now Mr Kirby I’m pretty sure you’ll have pupils requiring your attention pretty soon”, Jonah laughed, “Alright, I’ll talk to you later”. The conversation had lasted the entire journey, Cesca pulled into a parking space before grabbing her bag and getting out, looking both ways to see if she could catch where Adanna might be. “Cesca” Adanna called from behind her, “Hey, how’re you?”, “Great now that I am out of the house, I love Jonah so much and I know that he only wants to see me happy and safe, but I just can’t take him being so overprotective, I wouldn’t want him any other way but sometimes it’s too much”, “I know what you mean, all men have their specific quirks that make them who they are but sometimes it’s just over powering”, “Exactly”. The girls nattered away, heading to the different bridal shops, exploring all the wedding magazines, chatting about the guest list, who to invite, who not to. They wondered whether it would be weird to invite Karen if Charlie was already going, but Tom and Charlie got on really well so he couldn’t not come. The rest of the day ploughed on similarly, the girls having a good catch up whilst planning the best day of Adana’s life even if it this was her 4th marriage, something about this one felt right, it felt true. She couldn’t imagine herself any other way than with Tom. Tom and Adanna were just made for each other; it made Cesca happy to see her two best friends happy, together as a couple. Settled the awkwardness that was once there between her and Tom after all the using and distracting she tried to do at the beginning of her relationship with Jonah.

Back at school Jonah was finishing up, he wasn’t his worried self anymore, he was much more relaxed despite starting to panic about poor Mia, he didn’t know what to expect when he picked her up, this had completely changed their little girl, and he hated what the situation yesterday had done to her. She was hurting and he couldn’t stop it. He packed up his things and headed to the car, he knew that Cesca was busy with Adanna so headed off to pick Mia up from nursery he felt that a trip to the park might cheer her up a bit. He revved his engine before speeding off; his heart sank at the thought of Mia’s tears this morning.  Meanwhile Cesca was having some ideas of her own, Jonah had done so much for her, he would risk his life for his girls, for his family and just as promised to Mia she had a little surprise up her sleeve for him to, it was about time to that he was the one being spoilt and not doing the spoiling.
