Chapter 69 - Optimism and a whole bucket of love

Cesca and Jonah got out of the car; it had been an easier morning than normal. Mia was continuing to be that cute, helpful big sister and her parents loved her for it, it was making the mornings quicker and easier and better still there were no tantrums or arguments which meant more Kirby bonding time. Mia had gone off to school happy and was really starting to enjoy being in year 1, she felt all grown up despite only being a grade up from the lowest year. She would come home after school and read the book she had been sent home and those special key words to improve her years reading skills, Jonah and Cesca would sit down and do it with her, Oscar and Betsy were usually in their cots snoozing away at this point which was just perfect. Mia really was a bright student, she was improving her skills and really enjoying it in the process, and she was definitely starting to show signs of taking after her beloved daddy. She would constantly surprise them with her level of understanding and her fluidity of her reading; they were two very proud parents. Oscar and Betsy were also making them very proud, they were just two very gorgeous cute babies, they may drive them both insane with their sleepless nights but they loved them all the same. Cesca and Jonah really couldn’t believe how much had changed since secret kisses and mischief in empty classrooms, everything they had risked to be together was worth it, there love was more true than anything that ever walked the earth. They loved each other, plain and simple, they meant the world to each other, they had proved to everyone that what they shared and have is special and it really is true love. They shut the doors on the car simultaneously and Jonah’s hand soon found his delicate Cesca’s as they walked up to the school entrance, Jonah just made Cesca feel good, he brightened her day whatever mood she was in, even if she was in a bad mood because of something he had done, that really was true love and devotion.

Cesca and Jonah got closer to the doors, they both caught sight of Eleanor as they walked into school, she was with Nikki and she had the biggest smile on her face, Cesca couldn’t help smiling back, she knew that everything she had done the day before had been for the right reasons, what Nikki and Eleanor had at the minute might not be what you would call perfect, but that was okay because they still had the whole of the future. Cesca felt Jonah’s grasp tighten around her hand, she looked up at him in awe, “You did good Kirby”, Jonah snuck a passionate kiss onto her delicate lips before signalling with a slight cough that someone was there to see her, Jonah released his grip, “I’ll see you in the staffroom,”, “Okay”, Cesca said calmly smiling still from that warm loving kiss she had just received. “Miss I just wanted to say, thank you for everything”, “Nikki, I didn’t do anything”, “Yes you did, if it wasn’t for you I would have never found...I would have never found my mum”, Cesca had that smile on her face, the smile that wasn’t clear whether she was about to cry or beam, it was the smile that meant she had genuinely been touched. “Nikki I am always here, my door is always open”, Nikki smiled before once again walking away. Cesca had that warm feeling in her stomach the feeling of satisfaction pouring out through her cleansed pours, today felt good, Cesca had already spent the morning flicking through wedding magazines, she was finally able to start looking forward to what would be her wedding, renewing her vows to Jonah, but doing it all properly the way it should have been the first time. Cesca was excited this was the one day that every girl no matter how old or girly dreams of, Cesca just wanted it to be perfect and she had no doubt in the fact that it would be, after all her idea of perfect was to just have Jonah in her life forever, simple but her idea of perfect. Cesca just felt so positive today, nothing was going to stand in the way of that smile she wanted to show to everyone, that smile of sheer happiness. Cesca finally made her way into school greeted by Adanna, “Adanna, I haven’t heard from you recently?”, Cesca wasn’t entirely sure how Adanna was coping, she was a grown woman and Cesca was pretty sure that Adanna hadn’t completely fallen in love with Tom but having to see him every day and better still with the person he cheated with must be hard on anyone. “Well haven’t really felt like it to be honest Cesca”, “Right that’s it, you’re coming with me after school on a wedding spree”, Adana’s face lit up, “Sounds good Ces”, “Might have to bring Mia along, not sure whether Jonah could cope on his own with the twins and our little madam”, Adanna laughed, “Sounds lovely, it will be nice to spend time with you both”. The pair of them walked into school heading for the staffroom in the same way they always did.

Cesca walked in with Adanna whose smile was beginning to rub off on her too, Cesca went and sat with Jonah after hanging up her coat. “What are you so happy about?”, Jonah asked, “Well me and Adanna going on a bit of a shopping spree and I’m going to bring Mia along to”, “Don’t encourage her, she is already obsessed with clothes and she’s only 5 Ces, I don’t fancy having two Mrs Kirby’s to deal with”, “The cheek”, Cesca replied with a smile on her face, a smile that only ever had eyes for Jonah. They sat back in their chairs Adanna was sat with them and Tom wasn’t too far behind. Cesca well Jonah in particular were still friends with Tom despite everything but sometimes you just have to accept something’s as they come, Cesca wasn’t particularly happy with him, but he had always been there for and that wasn’t something she fancied throwing back in his face too soon. Jonah Cesca and Adanna began a good old natter the girls winding up Jonah about all their shopping plans, “I don’t know much more I can take of this wedding talk and we still have 1 month to go”, Cesca smiled, “And what an amazing month it will be”, Jonah loved how happy everything made Cesca, he would do anything for that beautiful smile to glide across her face as elegantly as it does. Meanwhile Nikki was just leaving Eleanor’s room and heading off to lessons, she was definitely in a much brighter mood, the news of her mum being Miss Chaudry hadn’t quite reached the ears of the corridors yet but Nikki’s best friend didn’t like the obvious fact that Nikki was keeping secrets from her. So they hadn’t been friends that long but Kayleigh had done nothing but care and support her friend from day one, they got on really well but maybe Kayleigh had misread the signals, maybe Nikki wasn’t quite who she thought she was. Kayleigh had a sick feeling in her stomach, something wasn’t quite right she had just seen her so called friend step out of the most hated teacher at waterloo roads classroom with a smile on her face, how could that ever be consider normal, how was something weird not going on, Kayleigh decided on doing a bit of detective work of her own after all she didn’t see Nikki telling her anytime soon, however close they seemed to be on the surface. Kayleigh headed off to first lesson but she was going to be keeping an eye on Nikki, a very close one at that! Jonah reached his classroom he had year 10 biology first lesson, GCSE lessons were really intense they were long and quite baffling for some students I mean it’s hard to understand X and Y chromosomes at any age. Though his students had a lot of respect for him as a teacher, he understood them on their level after all it was only 5 years ago that he was the one sat taking all this information in. He took the register before finally getting on with the lesson, the student’s pens were in tight grasp as in sync they began to take notes, Jonah had drummed into them the importance of notes, how much they helped when they came to revising topics. So despite the lesson having a lot of depth to it, it was generally going down well, his GCSE students took it seriously yes there were certain classes were the trouble makers loomed but Jonah was lucky with this one they were all calm, ready and willing to learn, three vital steps in how to create a healthy classroom atmosphere.

Meanwhile Cesca was teaching her year 8’s, Esme was beginning to come out of her shell after Cesca’s encouraging words, Esme was realising that this lesson was the one lesson the teacher would fully understand what she was going through, it was the lesson that she could slowly feel at home in after all it was a little taste of back where her little sister and mum were after all. Esme really liked having Cesca as a teacher and mentor, she was warm hearted and genuinely cared as well as being a great teacher which was a bonus, not that Esme actually needed to understand or learn about what the class were being taught. The class was going well there was that usual sense of family almost, the fact they would be there for each other and the fact all the students respected Cesca. However the class wasn’t all fun and games, Kayleigh had a face on which stuck out like a sore thumb, Cesca did her usual walking around the classroom so she could address this issue. Cesca reached Kayleigh and leant down to her level, “Are you okay?”, “I’m fine why wouldn’t I be”, “You don’t seem yourself that’s all”, “Look sometimes you just can’t help everyone”, Kayleigh’s voice reached a volume that the rest of the class could hear, “Kayleigh would you mind staying behind after lesson, I want to have a word”, Cesca got up and carried on with the lesson, she wasn’t going to let the rudeness of one student get in the way of her good day though. She finished up and dismissed the class and prepared for her chat with Kayleigh. Kayleigh grabbed her bag and stood in front of her teacher’s desk, “So you going to tell me what’s wrong or are we going to have a guessing game”, Kayleigh stood there in silence with a face like thunder. “Kayleigh”, Cesca’s tone was calm and clear, Cesca felt like this was soon to become a regular habit constantly having to talk to students on a one to one basis, it wasn’t something she often had to do but it was starting to become a regular occurrence and Cesca wasn’t sure she was to happy with it all. “Why is Nikki suddenly so close to Miss Chaudry”, “Sorry”, Cesca said, she wasn’t quite sure where this had all come from, “I saw her come out of Miss Chaudry’s class this mooring with a smile on her face, no one ever comes out of her room with a smile on their face”,”Kayleigh that’s something you need to talk to Nikki about, it’s not my place to say”, “Why not, if you know then you can tell me. I thought you were all for helping students and making them feel better”, “I am Kayleigh but this isn’t going to help anyone you need to speak to her”, Kayleigh grabbed her back and Cesca sat down in her chair and let out the biggest sigh possible, she really felt like she was close to blurting it all out then, poor Kayleigh what she wanted to know was simple but it wasn’t something Cesca had a place to comment in. Cesca began to get her stuff together after all she had a shopping trip to get ready for and to be honest she couldn’t wait. Kayleigh made her way out of Cesca’s room and was almost stunned to see Nikki in the corridor with Miss Chaudry, Kayleigh managed to pick up on the end of the conversation this time. “I’ll see you at home mum”, Kayleigh didn’t know what to think or feel, how did this all happen and more to the point when, she was fed up of the secrets and hurt so she decided to confront Nikki she wanted to hear it all from Nikki. And she wanted to know now. “Nikki can we talk”, “Sure”, Nikki said enthusiastically, how was she to know her friend had just heard everything. “So shall we go home to your mum’s”, Kayleigh didn’t quite know where to start so decided to dive straight down in the deep end, “I can explain but it’s a long story”, “Save it Nikki, I thought we trusted each other, I thought we were friends”, Kayleigh stormed off, “You don’t understand I have only just found out myself”, Kayleigh was long gone by this point but Nikki had a shoulder to cry on her mum was right behind her all ready to pick up the pieces with a loving hug.

Further down the corridor Esme was really opening herself up to everyone especially Lola, her new friend they had spent so much time together recently, Esme really was finding comfort in having a friend with the same name as her little sister as well as having a really loving caring Spanish teacher. It was only because of Cesca that Esme even had this new found confidence to just be herself. Cesca was all sorted and was now walking down the corridor with Adanna after grabbing her coat, they were both so excited they hadn’t had one on one girly time in ages, plus Cesca was looking forward to hearing about what Mia had been up to at school today, she pretty sure that it would be something amazing, she really was full of surprises that little Kirby of theirs, “So when do you think you’ll be back?”, Jonah crept up behind her slotting his arms around her waist and whispering into her ear. “Not too late, after all I’ve got Mia, I reckon about 5 at the latest but then again...”, Cesca liked winding Jonah up, it would always bring a smile to his face, “Look I’ll be home by 5, 6 at the absolute latest. I’ll call you and I am expecting dinner on the table”, “Gosh, you don’t ask for much”, “Watch it Kirby”, Cesca joked, the pair shared a delicate kiss, “I’ll see you later babe”, Cesca said before going off with Adanna to go and get Mia from school before hitting the shops in full wedding mode. Cesca got out of her car with Adanna and walked up to the school gates, Cesca instantly saw her little girl as she ran towards her, her hair now shoulder length and curly just like her mummy’s, she had a blue hair band in separating her main bed of hair from her fringe she looked so cute as she jumped into Cesca’s arms. “Hey baby, I think by the smile on your face you had a good day?”, Cesca took Mia’s hand, “Yes, we painted flowers today mummy and I got to take mine to Mrs Haydock”,”Mia that’s amazing, your one very clever girl. Right we better get going because we are all going shopping”, “So Adanna is coming to?”, “Yep”, “Good because I like Adanna”, Mia’s comment made the pair of them laugh, Mia instantly gave Adanna a big hug before walking off back to the car nattering away to her whilst Cesca walked along texting Jonah, Well I think that you should be one proud daddy! Mia got her work shown to Steph, she is one very happy Kirby C x Cesca pressed send with a big grin on her face, she too was very proud of her little girl which was very clear in the  tone of her text, it was things like this that weren’t worth keeping quiet about. Cesca’s phone bleeped just before she reached the car. She sure is full of surprises! Love you both lots, B and O have lots of hugs for their mummy once she’s home, One proud daddy. X  Cesca smiled, she unlocked the car helped Mia with her seatbelt and got in. She started the engine and headed for town. “Mia, daddy says he’s very proud of you baby”, “How do you know”, “Because I texted him”, “Oh that’s what the big cheesy grin was for”, Adanna said. “Was it really that obvious”, Cesca said in reply to Adanna. Mia was now engrossed in watching the traffic and the views out of the window something she had always done since a very young age, “I really wish I could find someone that makes me as happy as Jonah makes you”, “Adanna you will find someone the problem is your looking to hard for them, when I found Jonah it wasn’t under the best of circumstances but we just clicked, it wasn’t intentional and we didn’t deliberately set out on going on dates and falling in love, everything sort of grew. Yes I was attracted to him”, Cesca could feel her cheeks turn beet red just at the thought of her lovely man “But that didn’t mean I was intentionally going out of my way to get him”, “It’s alright I know what you mean”, Adanna smiled, realising Cesca was finding it slightly hard to explain, love never was the easiest emotion to get down in words, “But the point is your going to be very happy one day”. Cesca was always the optimist; she loved life and lived it to the full.

They reached town parked up and headed to the shops, Mia’s hand was now in Cesca’s. They headed to a dress shop not intentionally going to find her wedding dress but if it happened to catch her eye than she would be happy, the reason for going into the shop was to hopefully find a bridesmaids dress for Mia, she was in a good mood so hopefully their wouldn’t be any tantrums, Cesca knew how excited Mia would be to feel like a real princess for the day and Mia’s happiness was important to Cesca. They walked into a shop filled with every girls dream, “Right Mia don’t touch anything and I mean anything”, Cesca could just imagine it Mia getting over excited touching all the dresses and leaving mucky handprints all over them or better still tugging them till they landed on the floor. “Hi, can I help you?”, a very lovely polite man asked, “Come to look for bridesmaids dresses”, “Just this way”, Cesca began to search at one end of the line of dresses and Adanna the other end, hopefully that meant they could cover more in less time. “I painted a flower today”, Mia told the kind man, “Did you?” his reply was enthusiastic and they got chatting, Cesca smiled to herself, Mia always was one for being sociable. Cesca flicked through the dresses they were all a bit too grown up for Cesca’s liking, despite being for young girls there were strapless dresses and dresses that looked more like Minnie replicas of the actual wedding dresses themselves, Cesca was finding it a little frustrating. How hard could it be to find the perfect bridesmaids dress anyway? Mia was behaving in fact the man who owned the shop was so impressed he gave her one of the real flowers that was sat in the vase by the cash machine. “That’s really kind of you, what do you say Mia?”, “Thank youuuu”, Mia’s thank you was exaggerated, she really did like the flower. “Ces, think I might have found one”, Adanna pulled out a gorgeous ivory dress, it had short sleeves, a sash of material round the middle, which was to be done up in a big bow at the back and was so delicately decorated with a group of gold butterflies which gradually lead up the shoulder on one side. Cesca took it all in, “That’s beautiful”, It was simple and cute, just what Cesca was after, she wasn’t into all this dressing up your 5 year old as if they were 16. She wanted to embrace every stage of Mia’s growth, which meant putting her in adorable dresses like these. “Mia what do you think of this dress”, Mia smiled “It’s pretty”, Mia said, “Come on then let’s go try it on”. Adanna smiled, she was feeling rather proud of her little find. Adanna was given Mia’s school book bag and told by Mia to take good care of her flower and to make sure that it didn’t die. Mia really did come out with the strangest things sometimes. “Are you ready Adanna”, Cesca said through the curtain after finishing doing up the elegant buttons on the back of Mia’s dress, she had tied the bow and was now ready for Adana’s opinion. Mia was a picture, it fitted beautifully, the dress was calf length so plenty of room for Mia to run around and still be the little girl she was, Cesca wasn’t expecting her to be calm and quiet all day, that just wasn’t Mia’s way of doing things. “Stand still a minute Mia”, Cesca took a photo as well as admiring her beautiful little girl, “Mia you look  gorgeous”, Cesca said, Mia loved it she kept twirling around and watching all the layers of her dress create a circle as they rose up. “Right come on you we better be going, daddy has the twins and I told him we would be back by 5 and it’s already half past”, Cesca helped Mia to get changed and then went to go pay for the dress, whilst Mia grabbed her jacket from Adanna and checked whether her flower was still alive Cesca managed to send the picture of their little girl to Jonah, Our baby all grown up, see you soon we are just leaving. C x Cesca had found the evening quite emotional, it just showed how grown up Mia had got, she looked beautiful in her dress and it made Cesca’s day knowing how much Mia liked it. They left the shop Mia holding on to her flower for what seemed like dear life, they got in the car and headed home, they dropped off Adanna before going to see how daddy was coping. Cesca let Mia out of the car before grabbing her little girls dress out of the boot. She rummaged through her keys finding the one for the front door before letting them both in, Cesca hung the dress on the banister before heading in to see what Mr Kirby was up to, Mia had gone up to play for a bit.

Cesca had walked into find her man asleep on the sofa Betsy asleep on his chest, his arms protecting her, Oscar had woken the minute Cesca walked in the door, he wasn’t crying he was happy to see his mummy, “Hello little man”, Cesca picked up her little boy and cuddled him before walking over to Jonah who woke up to the sight of his beautiful wife, “Well I guess we’re having pizza then?”, she giggled, “I was going to start the dinner once you told me you were on your way home”, “I did” “Sorry I must have fallen asleep by then”, It’s okay”, Cesca sat down on the sofa holding Oscar in her arms, the twins were changing by day as they grew and developed hugs like this were definitely a reason to have children. “You were Right Oscar and Betsy definitely had a hug ready for mummy”, Cesca said before remembering that Jonah should check his text, “Oh, you might want to read the text I sent you”, Jonah was a little puzzled but he carefully shuffled so he could reach into his pocket careful not to wake Betsy in the process, he opened the unread message to the sight of his little girl all dressed up looking beautiful, “Ces, she looks just as beautiful as you”, Cesca smiled giving him a kiss, “She was so good today, the man who helped us even gave her a flower, she told Adanna whilst she was trying on the dress to make sure it didn’t die”, “Well she’s an observant little girl”, “She sure is”, The pair snuggled in closer the twins in  an arm each, Mia bombed down the stairs and joined them, it really was the perfect evening to the perfect day. That was until Mia decided it would be a good idea to get the Wii sing out and waking Betsy up, only resulting in a daddy with very sore ears.
