Chapter 35 - The reality of being alone and lonely

Cesca had spent the rest of the week at her mums; she hadn’t explained anything to Mia despite her constantly calling out for her daddy. Cesca was completely heartbroken, she couldn’t get her head around the whole thing, she wanted answers, why, was the main one she had stirring in her head like a witches cauldron over boiling with so many different things. Cesca thought Jonah was happy, he made her happy, but now he had completely shattered her heart to the point she could no longer feel anything but lonely and afraid. Her being so upset was starting to take its toll on Mia, Cesca had decided she was going back to England, she couldn’t face seeing Jonah, he had hurt her to the point she just wanted to walk out of the whole situation and never look back. It hurt too much to look back, she knew going home would mean looking at what they had, looking at everything they went through to be together but Cesca needed to get a routine going for Mia, this needed to be as normal as possible for her. She didn’t want their daughter to suffer, like piggy in the middle. She had packed their bags and was on a plane back to England it was the first day back of term tomorrow so she needed to sort herself out anyway, doing something would keep her mind off everything she hoped, though she knew it was going to be hard without Jonah around. They were on the plane once more. An empty seat haunted Cesca the whole way home along with the question, “where’s daddy?” Cesca didn’t know what to do; she didn’t know what to say, so instead she said nothing. The plane landed, “Mummy why are you sad?” Mia had caught on to the tear that was now rolling down her mummy’s cheek. Cesca decided to be honest with Mia, she didn’t have to tell her everything but she deserved to know something, “Daddy has made mummy very sad”, “Daddy doesn’t love you anymore”, “He loves you very much Mia”, Cesca tried to fight back the tears which came with ignoring Mia’s last question, hearing it from a 3 year old just showed how plain and simple it all was, Cesca had her mind set with one answer, Jonah no longer loved her, which just hurt like a blade as she loved him so much!

They got in the car once arriving back in England, Cesca tried to keep a cheery face on, for Mia’s sake she had seen enough tears for one day. “Did you like swimming Mia?”, Cesca said, “Mummy I loved it, especially when daddy threw you in the pool”, Mia giggle at the end of her sentence, Cesca looked at Mia through the rear view mirror with a smile on her face, though it wasn’t long till the smile vanished, it hurt to think about the good times, they all just seemed so fake to Cesca now, nothing felt right, she didn’t feel right. She felt lonely, she felt like the missing piece to a perfect puzzle, why had everything gone so wrong, it was always going to messy when it ended but now there was a child involved, a child that loved them both, a child that neither of them wanted to hurt. Mia had fallen asleep as per usual, she was worn out and quite frankly Cesca was glad, she couldn’t face seeing Mia when she felt so sad, Mia was the only piece of joy left in her, but she couldn’t enjoy it properly because she felt so down in the dumps. Cesca got out of the car, looking at the house, standing alone was enough to make her shiver and tremble, this was all so messed up, she had given every piece of her heart to Jonah and now he had completely ripped it out of her. Cesca picked up Mia out of the car, quietly shutting the door as she plodded to open the front door, struggling to fit the key in the door, she broke down in tears. Her body shuddered as she attempted to hold Mia tight, she needed to feel that she still had her daughter, she still had Mia. Cesca opened the door, leaving their luggage in the hall she headed up to Mia’s room, getting her ready for bed before placing her in bed. “Night sweetie, I love you, daddy loves you”, Cesca said, she wanted Mia to know that Jonah still loved her, Mia had so much love for both of them, she didn’t want this to change just because they weren’t together. Cesca quietly shut Mia’s door before heading off to her own room, she reached the doorway, looking at the bed was like watching her past flick by. Tears fell down her cheeks, but she refused to cry, she slowly walked into her room getting into bed quickly she refused to look at the empty space that was next to her, the space that used to be filled with Jonah. Her eyes continued to leek but were breifly stopped by a new feeling of sickness; Cesca headed to the toilet to chuck her guts up and headed back to bed thinking nothing of it. Tears began to fall down her cheeks once more as  she felt cold and awkward crying herself to sleep she needed Jonah there to support her, to just hold her but that was no longer an option.

Cesca was woken to the sound of her alarm, she rolled over forgetting about Jonah’s absence, she opened her eyes once she realised no one was there, she chucked the covers back and headed for a shower, a frown permanently painted on her face until she was dressed and ready to wake up Mia, when her frown turned upside down. “Morning mummy”, Mia said, “Morning gorgeous, did you sleep well”, “Yes I did and so did Flopsy”, “oh good, now who wants coco pops?”, Cesca asked, suddenly Cesca felt sick again so headed for the bathroom, she knew she was feeling sad and lonely but hadn’t realised it had got her down to the point it was making her ill. Mia poked her head round the door to find Cesca being sick, “Mummy get better soon”, Mia said, Cesca wiped her mouth sitting back on her heels and shared a hug with Mia, “yeah, mummy doesn’t feel so great, you going to be a good girl today for me”, “of course”, she said cheekily, Cesca smiled, “Right rascal, breakfast otherwise were going to be late for your first day at nursery”. “We don’t want that”, Mia said in her usual cute tone, she made Cesca laugh lightening her mood a little. Cesca poured Mia  a bowl of coco pops and sat with her as she drank her coffee, “So what do you think you will be doing today then?”, Cesca asked Mia “urr painting or dancing, I like dancing”, “I know you do monkey, sounds like you’re going to have a lovely day then”. Cesca smiled finding some reassurance in the fact that Mia was okay. Cesca took her mug and Mia’s bowl through whilst she asked Mia to get ready, “Mia, can you get your shoes and jacket on please”, Mia was as good as gold, she followed her mum’s instructions and greeted her mummy at the door, book bag in hand.  “Thank you Mia, let me just find my bag, wait here”. Cesca headed back up stairs to grab her bag noticing her phone was on the table to that would have been a pain to have left that. Cesca adjusted her bag on to her shoulder as she noticed her phone was flashing, she had a text. Who could this be from it was quarter to 8 for god sake. Cesca stopped at the top of the stairs, “Come on mummy were going to be late”, “one sec petal” Cesca opened up the text, it was from Jonah. She read the words apprehensively: Cesca, I know I’m the last person your wanting to hear from, but thought you should know, I’m coming back today, heard your already home. I want to talk about this, I’m not giving up on us j x. Cesca closed the text down, as she wiped the small tear that had trickled down her face away. “Mummy”, “sorry sausage I’m just coming”. Cesca took Mia’s hand “Let’s go”. She shut the door behind them and headed to nursery for Mia’s first day. They reached the nursery, there were many little children with beaming smiles the odd child holding on to their parent’s legs as they refused to go and play. Cesca was sure that she wouldn’t have this problem, Mia was very independent, confident but not overly confident, she was sure in herself. Mia was one proud mummy that was for sure. Cesca opened Mia’s door as her excited little girl got out. They walked hand in hand up to the door until Cescas felt the need to stop as Mia stopped walking, “come one Mia”, Cesca turned around to see Mia helping one of the little children who was sad and upset. “I’ll be your friend”, were the exact words Mia used to a little girl called Daisy. Daisy took Mia’s hand as Mia looked up at Cesca, “I’m proud of you honey, now you go and have fun, I will see you once I have finished school, I love you Mia, remember daddy does too!” Cesca found it hard to say his name but once again wanted to bang it in to her little girl that he wasn’t trying to hurt her to.

Cesca walked back to her car after waving to Mia, she was so proud of her little girl, despite everything at home, she never once took out her frustration of not quite understanding what was going on with anyone instead she simply tried to help others whether it was her mummy or Daisy, she did her best to help, Mia really did hate seeing people miserable, after all she was so used to seeing happy faces and tears of joy not sorrow. As Cesca wandered back to the car, she felt sick once more. She couldn’t understand it, she didn’t feel ill, but kept finding the need to be sick. Cesca casually threw up behind her car, no one took any notice, in fact it hadn’t been that obvious, Cesca brushed herself down and headed off to work, despite her head being all over the place. She reached the school gates, turning into to waterloo road for a new term and a new start. Every term was beginning to feel like a new start for Cesca and each time for a different reason. Cesca got out the car, it was obvious she wasn’t herself, she hadn’t told anyone about her differences with Jonah, she couldn’t face the idea of telling people they were over, but more to the point she wasn’t entirely sure where she stood, was this a rough patch or the end of it all, Cesca couldn’t take it and before first lesson found herself constantly thinking about Jonah’s text, he was back today, did she want to see him, he clearly wanted to see her. This idea was starting to make Cesca feel a bit better but the constant sickness wasn’t. Cesca ran into her friend Adanna as she headed for the toilets looking as peaky as ever. This seemed like an all too familiar situation for Adanna, but she didn’t want to presume anything. “Cesca, you alright?”, Adanna was answered with the sound of Cesca throwing up, she flushed the chain and opened the door breaking down in Adana’s arms, they still had 15 minutes till first period. “Ces, what’s happened?”, “its Jonah, were not together”. Cesca was completely distraught at the prospect of telling Adanna. But Adanna being her friend she had to get to the bottom of it, which she did. “Ces, this doesn’t have to be the end, you clearly don’t want it to be”, “I don’t your right, but how do I know if I can trust him, how do I know that he truly loves me”, “Ces, he wants to talk about this at least give him the chance”. As soon as the conversation had finished Cesca found the urge to throw up once more, this time Adanna was there to hold her hair, “Cesca, are you sure your okay?”, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I don’t feel ill or anything of the sort”, “Ces”, Adanna looked at her as if to say are you listening to yourself, is it not obvious what is wrong. Cesca’s face dropped, “this can’t be happening, not now. I can’t go through this without him”, “Looks like a perfect excuse to talk to him”. Adana’s words were inspiring, “I think you need to take a pregnancy test before you do though, make sure you’re certain before shooting that at him”. Cesca nodded completely shocked at the whole idea of being alone and pregnant. They had always wanted more children but now the circumstance were different, this wasn’t what she wanted, and she didn’t want to have to bring up Mia on her own let alone a new born baby!

Cesca headed to first lesson, it was an easy class it was year 7. They got on with their work, were polite and wouldn’t give her grief which gave her the opportunity to work everything through in her head. The end of the lesson couldn’t have come any sooner. Cesca had break now so would be able to find out the truth about the unplanned pregnancy. She bumped into Adanna, being the loving friend that she was had already popped to the chemist and bought it for her, “Adanna, will you be with me. When I find out the result”, “Of course Hun”, Adanna gave Cesca a hug before the pair headed off to the staff toilets. Cesca sat on the toilet seat, shaking the test, trying to pass the awkward few minutes, she ran the consequences of the test being positive over and over in her head, she didn’t know what would happen is she was to be pregnant. She looked at her watch before the test; she took a deep breath in before bringing the test up to her face. The test read positive. Cesca was shocked, this really couldn’t be happening, as if it wasn’t already messed up enough without bringing another child into the situation. Cesca opened the door greeted by her friend, all she needed was a simple nod to know the result, “You going to talk to Jonah”, “yeah”, was all Cesca said as she headed off back to class. Adanna watched with a worried smile on her face as she left.

It was the start of second period Cesca was greeted by her year 10’s who happily got on with some coursework, her mind was all over the place, she set the task before saying that they could get on with some coursework “remember I am here if you have any queries” Cesca managed to bring a smile to her face despite everything that was going on in her life. As they class got on with their coursework and exam practice her mind turned to Mia, it put a smile on her face to know that she already had a new friend, Daisy. She seemed ever so lovely, Cesca could see a best friend in the making, it reminded her of Sam and Lauren, they really were the best, best friends she had ever seen, and it was a pleasant thought to know that Daisy and Mia might be as close as them two one day. Cesca was away with the fairies as one of the pupils said that they had found this book in their folder, it was Jonah’s book. “thank you Bradley”, she replied taking the book off him, slumping back in her seat and reading the fluent lines of Spanish, page after page. It put a smile on her face, until she hit a page that stood out. It was a love letter, to her. Cesca was touched it read: You’re my moon and stars, corny I know. I could never be without you. You complete me Cesca; you’ll always be the piece that fills my heart. A tear once again filled her eye, but this one was a tear full of joy, she knew she had to talk to Jonah, she wanted his baby, but she just wasn’t sure how much he wanted her. They only way to find out was by talking to him. She rummaged through her bag, her classes heads still fixed down as she began to text Jonah: J, I love you so much! Just read your letter, the one in your Spanish book, I feel the same way, I can’t be without you. We really need to talk, something has come up, it’s urgent! Meet me at school, lunchtime, C x. She knew Jonah would be back by then, this meant that she could get their news out in the open and sort it out with Jonah, not being with him was truly eating her up inside and she knew he would be feeling the same.

Lesson ended, Adanna popped her head round to a much brighter Cesca, don’t get me wrong she was still upset but there was a glimmer of hope in her eyes, “Something’s changed your tune”, “Just found a note in his book, a love letter. I can’t just let him walk away”, “Then don’t”, “that’s why I’m not, meeting him in 5 minutes”. “Tell me how it goes”. “You’ll be the first to know, thanks Adanna”. Cesca brushed herself down, sorted her make up out before hoping that Jonah would turn up, she waited and waited. But he didn’t come, so she began to walk the corridors, until she felt these familar arms pull her close, she pulled out from the grip before turning around to see it was him, a smile instantly filled her chops. “Jonah” “I missed you so much, I love you, I will never stop loving you”, “and I can’t be without you Jonah”. The couple instantly gave each other a passionate kiss; Jonah’s hands round Cesca’s waist pulling her close. Cesca looked at Jonah with loving eyes, “I need to know I can trust you”, “Ces, I told you the truth. It should never have happened, I love you so much”, tears ran down his face, “No crying, you’ll start me off”, she said, she wiped his tears away with her soft elegant hand, before reaching down to hold his, “I need to talk to you”, “okay, fire away”, “In private”, Jonah wasn’t sure what this could be, he followed her along as she led the way, her hand in his, things were already looking much brighter. She led the way into her classroom, the classroom that held all their special memories, which made this the perfect place to tell him her news, their news. “Jonah, this came as a shock to me to, so I’m not surprised if you’ll be to”, “Ces, what you on about”, “Jonah...I’m pregnant!”, Cesca said, she waited for Jonah to respond with shock instead he simply lifted her up, putting her back down so their lips could lock together. “Ces, this is amazing news, I love you and our unborn child so much”, “Jonah, I have never met anyone like you, this time is going to be different, this time is going to be easier. No keeping secrets, we’ll be able to go through it all together. "Our baby”. “Mia is going to be so excited” The pair shared a kiss as their hands met Cesca’s tiny stomach, Jonah’s face told the story of how proud he was to be having another baby!
