Chapter 47 - Why so many tears?

Cesca continued to grip on to the bed sheets, she was in agony. She didn’t have a clue what was going on, her face was tear stained, her eyes once again resembling pandas, Cesca had way too much on her mind, the babies, Daisy, she just felt so stressed so uptight. Everything always seemed to hit Cesca in one fail swoop, not giving her a chance to come to the surface and gasp for air, life always expected her to deal with the extremes, why couldn’t anything be simple, why did life have to be one big test, one big game, a game where everyone were the pieces, there were too many rules and too much complication. Jonah wrapped his arms around Cesca whilst she cried, there was a knock at the door, “Ces, I’ll be back, they’re here”, Cesca didn’t respond she simply cried, cried tears of sadness. Why was this happening to her, everything was perfect, everything was just great and now it had all turned on its head, everything had become a nightmare and resembled elements of hell. Cesca was fragile, she could see Mia’s tiny eyes peeping round the corner of the door, she didn’t know what to do, how could she reassure her little girl, when every bit of her inside wanted to scream out and say help me, but she didn’t want to scare Mia so simply said, “I love you”, a tear ran down Mia’s cheek as she rushed back in to bed. This left Cesca even more heartbroken, she thought things were supposed to get worse before they got better, so why wasn’t anything getting better why was everything that surrounded her and kept her safe, everything that gave her a reason to live crumbling at the seams. Cesca’s heart bounced out of her chest with every heartbeat, her breath became shallower and shallower, and the pain was almost masked by the fear of losing her babies. The paramedics headed up the stairs, assessing Cesca thoroughly but quickly before taking her to hospital.

Jonah panicked what should he do, he wanted to be with his wife but he knew that Daisy and Mia needed him, Daisy had been through a lot today, but so had all of them. Jonah settled on phoning his Dad, he always knew how to solve things, “Dad...dad ...it’s Cesca she is on her way to hospital.... I...I need to be with her”. “I’ll be right over”, considering Marcus was always the one who had demanded that Cesca was to be locked up, he had done a lot for the pair of them, helping out when he could, and accepting Cesca and Jonah as husband and wife and most of all bonding with his granddaughter. Jonah explained the situation with Daisy before hearing footsteps at the door, his dad must have sped here as fast as he could, “I’m here you go with Cesca. She needs you”. Jonah hugged his dad and blew Mia a kiss before jumping in the back of the ambulance to be with his wife. Hospitals seemed to be a regular visit in the Kirby household; it wasn’t even like they were accident prone it was almost as if they had been cursed with this cloud of being unlucky. Jonah sat seat belted in, holding Cesca’s hand the whole way, her eyes showed fear as well as holding buckets of tears, he caressed her head with his hand, “I love you”, was all he said. She knew that, that meant he was to be there for her, through everything, he wasn’t going to back out and leave her now! Jonah became more venerable by the second, being strong had taken its toll on him, he needed his chance to break down to, but he couldn’t do it in front of Cesca that what only panic her more, he needed to be strong for her, be the glue that held them together through thick and thin. Cesca was beginning to feel the effects of the drugs, she lifted her hand up, no longer in so much pain and caressed Jonah’s face, wiping the tear that began to trickle down his cheek away, he held her hand as it rested on his face, kissing it before holding it tightly, “I won’t let anything happen to you”, there was so much anxiety in that small enclosed space, neither of them knew what was happening nobody knew what was wrong which just made the situation that much more unbearable.  Cesca lifted her oxygen mask of her face to speak the words, “I only ever loved you”, neither of them knew what was going to happen so both found themselves declaring their love for one another, they wanted to make sure they were both clear on how they both felt on how much they appreciated the other, how they couldn’t be happy with anybody else.

They reached the hospital, Cesca was wheeled out Jonah followed, he found himself almost running after her the pace they were pushing her, she wasn’t in pain but none of the doctors knew the severity of her condition, it was still unclear what was wrong with her and since she was heavily pregnant they treated her as quickly as possible, it seemed that every second counted. Every movement and decision would change the outcome so time really was on their side. Cesca was hooked up to monitors, wires hanging out of every single possible place, “J, don’t let the wires freak you out, I’m feeling much better”, she could see how scared he was, his face dropping two shades in colour, he sat next to her, she caressed his face once more as they awaited the doctors return, all they needed was her diagnosis, that was all that mattered in that fraction of time, it could snow for all they cared but nothing would matter except what was wrong with Cesca. Cesca began to break down in tears despite trying to be strong for Jonah for once, but lying in the hospital bed in a hospital gown, was all too much, this didn’t feel right, how had everything that had happened today reached this point , the point where she had been admitted to hospital. There was a slight cough as Cesca looked up from trying to avoid contact with Jonah; she really didn’t want him to see that she was crying again. Jonah held her hand as the doctor stated the facts, “Right, well I won’t leave you in suspense, Francesca you put yourself under extreme levels of stress, I advise lots of rest and nothing that will push you over the edge, you need to relax. Your body responded to everything it was being put through with a pinching feeling”, “So the babies are fine?”, “Yes, what happened today was simply your body saying it had, had enough, You need to take it easy especially expecting twins in almost 2 months time.”, “She will be doctor, thank you so much”, “The nurse will come and detach the wires, we will then be sure to discharge you”, Cesca smiled, her face no longer wet but sticky. The doctor left them to talk about everything. “Ces, you really do need to take it easy, I am going to phone my dad, see if he can sort out the Daisy situation before we get back, that put you under so much stress, I don’t want to be here again before the babies are born”, Cesca smiled, “Thank you J”, he leant over to give her a kiss before heading out to make the phone call, he left Cesca content, looking down at her rather large bump, she was beginning to look as if she might drop any second. She felt a sudden prod, letting out an ow as it happened, she smiled though, she knew that they were okay for sure, she couldn’t wait to meet them, it wouldn’t be long now, they still needed to get the nursery sorted, the spare room would be perfect for the two of them, Cesca and Jonah had decided on white walls that way it would be perfect for either sex and since they were having a boy and a girl it needed to be suitable for both of them. Cesca had ideas in her head but they hadn’t put them down on paper yet as it were.  Cesca couldn’t wait till all her family were together but she knew they still had the small matter of making sure that Daisy was going to be okay. But she knew as long as Jonah was on it, which he was, everything would be okay, and everything would be the way it should be.

Meanwhile Jonah checked back with his dad for the second time in about 10 minutes, his dad had just finished dealing with social services, Daisy went with a kind young lady, she was happy to have spent the evening with her best friend, anything was better than staying with her mummy. Marcus reassured him that he would sort Mia out as he could hear her crying down the end of the phone, “I love you Mia, mummy and daddy will be home soon baby”. He called down the phone, Mia stopped her wailing but not the whimpering so that she could reply, “I love you to daddy and I love mummy, big kiss”, Mia never failed to make him smile, he was glad that he had spoken to her, the last person he heard on the other end of the phone because it made the situation feel more positive, which it was now. They were all healthy and happy and most importantly safe, which really was the top of the list in Daisy’s case. Jonah returned back to Cesca who was all changed back in to her clothes and had signed herself out of the hospital, Jonah had asked his dad to come and pick them up since the ambulance that had bought them wasn’t a local taxi service. They had timed it perfectly as soon as they walked out of the big hospital doors, Marcus pulled up alongside the drop off zone. Cesca got in the back with Mia, giving her lots of kisses. “Mummy is fine Mia, no need to be scared baby, I love you”, Mia’s face lit up the fear ripped out of her as she took the truth and kept it safe. “Everything okay then?”, Marcus asked Jonah replying as he seat belted himself in, “Cesca just needs to relax, today was too much, she was under so much stress, it wasn’t good for the babies, it wasn’t good for her”. Cesca smiled as she heard Jonah talk of how he truly felt about it all. “I think between you and me we need to do something nice for daddy, to show him how much we love him”, Cesca said to Mia who simply nodded and put a finger to her lips. Surprises really were the best way to put a smile back on someone’s face and Cesca knew exactly what she had planned.
